  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water about 110 degrees
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For topping

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 TBSP water
  • 2 TBSP sesame seeds


  • In a large mixing bowl, combine yeast and warm water. Allow for 5 minutes after adding the oil and sugar. The mixture should be foamy after 5 minutes.

  • Whisk in egg. Mix in the salt and flour gradually. Continue to add flour until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead the dough in a mixer with a dough hook for 3-5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. (If you don't have a mixer, knead the dough by hand on a lightly floured surface.).) Do not let rise. Divide into 8 equal parts and roll each into a ball. Do not allow the dough to rise.

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet that has been greased or lined with parchment paper. Allow to rest for 10 minutes, covered with a kitchen towel. Brush the buns with egg wash after 10 minutes, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. 8-12 minutes until golden brown.


Buns can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Alternatively, you can freeze for up to a month.
