According to one of the groups' chief strategists, a network of political action committees supported by cryptocurrency industry leaders is planning a last-minute ad campaign in support of congressional candidates.

Web3 Forward and Crypto Innovation, two super PACs funded by crypto executives, are both expected to spend at least six figures on an ad campaign that will begin in two weeks, according to the strategist, who declined to be identified in order to speak freely about the private planning.

Just days before the midterm election day, Nov. 8, the groups intend to invest in TV ads supporting candidates from both sides of the aisle, this person said. The PACs are still deciding which candidates to back but plan to first air their ads in California, Oregon, Colorado, and Texas.

According to Federal Election Commission records, Web3 Forward supported Democrats running for Congress during the primary season, while Crypto Innovation supported Republicans. Neither PAC has purchased any campaign ads since September, when primary elections ended.

According to data from the nonpartisan OpenSecrets, out of the 11 House and Senate races Web3 Forward contributed to, nine of the group's preferred candidates prevailed. The congressional hopefuls included Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman, on whose behalf the PAC spent $212,000.

Crypto Innovation invested in seven races, and five of its preferred candidates won, including Ted Budd, the Republican Senate nominee from North Carolina backed by former President Donald Trump.

With $6.4 billion already flowing into TV, radio, and digital ads, the spending by the crypto PACs will increase the flurry of cash in what are anticipated to be the most expensive midterm elections ever.

Due to a 50-50 split in the Senate, where Democrats must rely on Vice President Kamala Harris to break ties, Democrats only have a slim majority in the House and Senate.

The party in control of the Senate will be decided by a small number of Senate elections, including those in Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Meanwhile, dozens of contests across the nation will determine whether Democrats can maintain their eight-seat majority in the House.

The GMI PAC, another super PAC that has received significant contributions from cryptocurrency leaders, is the main source of funding for Web3 Forward and Crypto Innovation. The contributions include $2 million in January from FTX CEO Samuel Bankman-Fried.

According to records, the group also received $1 million each in May from Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen, the managing partners of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, whose portfolio of companies includes cryptocurrency startups.

Anthony Scaramucci, the founder of SkyBridge Capital and the former director of communications for the Trump White House, gave $100,000 to Crypto Innovation in March, according to an FEC report.

According to cryptocurrency news outlet The Block, the founding board of directors of GMI PAC consists of Ryan Salame, CEO of FTX Digital Markets, Vance Spencer, co-founder of Framework Ventures, and Dan Matuszewski, co-founder of CMS Holdings.

Requests for comment prior to publication from Web3 Forward and Crypto Innovation were not answered.
